InfoRain is a group project for Have Fun and Play course at University of Twente. It’s also a proposal for the Gogbot festival at Enschede, during this September with topic Information Overload (with special accent on google). The visualization is prototype for the actual installation, which would have the opportunity to take place at Gogbot.

The installation has an aim to represent a the information overload on which we are exposed nowadays as digital rain and with the help of umbrella the users as “saved” and observe only filtered information at the bottom part of the umbrella. The umbrella gives the illusion its transparent in that way the users are engaged all the time.

For the actual intallation we are considering the use of OpenFrameworks and Adobe After Effect + we are qualified as team to work with Processing and Cinema 4D, which are still open as options for the visual part.

In today’s World Wide Web, we are exposed to greater information than ever before. People during the 60s consumed on average information equal to two daily newspapers. In today’s industrialized world, this equivalent is 8 newspapers.

To present this huge increase in the information flow, the project ‘Info Storm’ got for aim to ‘shower’ the users with the mass flow of the information they get access every time when type a keyword. All of the search results will be dropping from the ‘sky’ giving the feeling that the user is truly ‘overloaded’.

InfoRain is an art installation, which addresses the issue of information overload in the digital age we are living in. The installation was part of Gogbot festival at Enschede, during this September with the same topic (and the googlization of knowadge). Furthermore the project was exbiti during a number of open days events.

The installation has an aim to represent a the information overload on which we are exposed nowadays as digital rain and with the help of umbrella the users as “saved” and observe only filtered information at the bottom part of the umbrella. The umbrella gives the illusion its transparent in that way the users are engaged all the time.

The installation was developed on Unity3D with tracking markers with the use of webcamera.
